Emergency Landing: Delta 737 En Route to Minneapolis Returns to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International

A Delta plane’s engine failed in mid-air over Florida, forcing the flight to make an emergency landing Sunday morning, authorities said.

A Boeing 737 landed safely back at Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after the flight that was originally scheduled to Minneapolis was interrupted by an engine failure. No one was hurt. Passengers were immediately transferred to another plane for a flight to Minneapolis.

Broward County Sheriff’s deputies recovered pieces of what appeared to be the damaged engine from an area near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

The Delta jet Flight 1846 was a Boeing 737-800 with CFM56 engines. A new jet engine was being transported to Fort Lauderdale for replacement overnight — putting the plane back in service.
