How to Maintain Your Outdoor Space

The Florida weather means people get to use their backyards nearly year-round. Unlike Northern folks, Floridians don’t get a break from backyard maintenance. Outdoor spaces require a lot of upkeep and effort to remain useable and pristine. Check out this guide on how to maintain your backyard year-round.

Regularly clean your hardscaping

Hardscaping is an essential part of every outdoor space. Consisting of the non-living elements of landscaping, hardscaping is one of the most important elements in maintaining a useable space. The issue with hardscaping is that it can gradually get dirty. One simple solution to this is power washing your hardscaped areas, such as patios, decks, porches, and pathways. This can remove some serious dirt and make your space sparkle. For more regular maintenance, try sweeping dirt and debris from your hardscaped elements once a week and doing a deeper clean at the start of every season.

Pull weeds often

Weeds are unsightly and often rapidly spreading eyesores in otherwise gorgeous lawns. Weeding your lawn can foster a healthier grass plant and prevent weeds from taking over your space. Try to get out weeds from the root to prevent them from sprouting back up again a few days later. Regularly inspect your yard, and if you notice weed patterns or a specific type of weed that seems to grow all over, consider contacting professionals to get to the bottom of the problem.

Take care of your pool

If you have a pool, you probably enjoy putting it to use from time to time (or all the time!). Take care of it by practicing regular pool maintenance. Cleaning your pool regularly is an important part of keeping your outdoor space functional and looking attractive. Maintenance can also make your pool safer to use and prettier to look at, preventing issues such as overflowing, underfilling, and other safety hazards.

Wipe down your furniture

If you have outdoor furniture, you should clean it as often as you clean your indoor furniture—if not more often. Bring cushions and other soft elements such as pillows inside or place them in a waterproof container whenever it rains or storms. This will prevent them from developing mold. Wash any cushion covers and wipe down seats and tables often. A good rule of thumb is to wipe down outdoor furniture at least once every two weeks, or more often if you live in a particularly dusty or buggy area.
