You’ve been dreaming of this moment for years—retirement. You finally get to stop working and can start enjoying your newfound freedom. Take this opportunity to embrace all the world has to offer and pick an area that will interest you for years to come. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite places to retire around the world—set your sights on these beautiful locations.
Best Places to Retire Around the World
1. Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a paradisal country, home to an array of exotic animals and landscapes. If you’re looking for an area that offers both stunning beaches, exotic rainforests, and incredible mountain ranges, Costa Rica has it all. Its low cost of living pairs wonderfully with the gorgeous real estate and tropical climate. Areas such as Los Sueños and San José are wonderful places to relax for many years to come.
Portugal, in general, is an affordable place to live; however, our favorite, beautiful location is that of the Algarve region. It has some of the most breathtaking beaches, and with an ideal climate with sunshine year-round, you can enjoy the sand and waves every day of the week. We also like to note that health care is a fraction of the cost of care in North America—you’ll get world-class care with world-class beaches.
Thailand is a cultural hub with both sophisticated cities, untouched beaches, and undiscovered forests. Plus, they offer ultra-modern and affordable healthcare. Uncolonized by any European or Western countries, the country’s Thai culture is abundant and ancient. There are many expat communities—such as Chiang Mai—which make this country such a wonderful place to retire.
If you’re looking for a place to retire in the United States, Florida has long been known as the state where people retire to. It’s warm climate, proximity to the sea, and vibrate lifestyle has been captivating people for years. Florida has plenty of oceanside retirement communities, but if you’re looking for something different, Palm Beach and Punta Gorda are wonderful options that are a bit more under-the-radar.
Known as one of the top places to retire around the world, Panama is modern, convenient, and quite close to the United States. Its tropical climate complements the clean and uncrowded beaches. Panama City is becoming known for its delectable cuisine, music scene, golf locations, and so much more. The only first world city in Central America, Panama offers retirees a varied lifestyle at an affordable price.
If you’re looking for a high-class place to retire, turn to France. Of course, you can choose to stay close to Paris for endless luxurious affairs. However, you can also choose to get into touch with the history and rich culture of the country in places such as Annecy or other towns in Southern France. Annecy meets the expectations of all sorts of people—nature lovers, foodies, fashionista, museum aficionado, and more are all sure to find something they love.
America’s neighbor, Mexico has been taking in American retirees for years—and for good reason. Places such as Cancun have high-quality healthcare and absolutely stunning beaches. If you don’t really want ocean views, there are plenty of mountains, deserts, small towns, and glamorous cities. The cost of living is so low, it makes all the sense in the world that people would choose to enjoy their lives in the captivating country.
