Pearly the Indian Ring Neck Parrot flapped his wings and squawked before the smoke detector activated.

Fort Lauderdale firefighters responded about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday to a fire at 1336 SW 18th Ave. The fire was contained to the laundry room, thanks to squawking and wing flapping by “Pearly” a pet Indian Ring Neck Parrot.

The actions of the bear woke up LaruaJean Niesel and her fiancé, Dave. Niesel immediately opened a door and called 9-1-1.
